ABLE Residents and community visit Paradise Beach Park in Tiburon, CA on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Introducing Beth, our newest resident, along with Tulsi, Gillian, and Sunny who just recently joined the team. We are so glad to have all of them with us! The whole house enjoyed Stafford Lake Park in Novato on May 26, 2021. Many thanks for the excellent support of our amazing team, including Dave Kato, Alice Wolfgramm, and Julia Miller. Fun times were had by all as we played games, listened and danced to celebratory music (check out Mike's moves), shared a picnic lunch together, rested in hammocks, walked the grounds by the lake, and ventured the zip-line--go Adam! Everyone enjoyed getting outside and basking in the beauty of Marin County. Dear ABLE Community, To quote Clara, "We did it!" Last Wednesday, we had a celebration at 25 De Anza Way--honoring how far we've come since this time last year. We celebrate the health and well-being of all our residents and staff, acknowledging that this could have been a very different moment for our community. We acknowledge that it is a very different moment for many in our larger community, in this country, and in the world. As we grieve the losses we have sustained over a year of navigating this pandemic, we claim the importance of celebrating the wins and joys that we experience. In that spirit, we offer you this video. We hope it may bring you into our joy, celebration, and acknowledgement of arriving at a significant milestone, together. That night, we enjoyed delicious Sol Food and tasty pies homemade by Terry, played games, and listened to fun music, together. Here is a link to the party music playlist, for your enjoyment.
Thank you all for your support. Thank you for being part of this community. COVID may have changed our daily life, but it hasn’t kept us from celebrating! We’ve been blessed to have ongoing parties as each resident celebrates another birthday.
In October, Yolanda had a special party that included her favorite foods, barbecue ribs and cheesecake with raspberries. She spent time selecting the menu and loved the decorations—the whole ABLE staff went all out in making the room complete with streamers, balloons, and candles! We finished off the night with a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday, after which we enjoyed some cheesecake. All the residents at ABLE have prepared for flu season and received influenza vaccinations!
Much thanks to the ABLE staff—Alice, Dave, Imelda and Josh, for helping with transportation, moral support and comfort. The ABLE team has been very supportive in committing to getting their own flu shots this year, even those who might otherwise be reluctant. This year, it is even more important for everyone to get their flu shots. But why is that, exactly? Air Purifiers and New Beds!
In the midst of COVID, our residents have transitioned away from our normal outings and spending more time around the house. So, we’ve decided to make some home improvements! First on the agenda was air purifiers. Even though we wear masks and check temperatures routinely, air purifiers add another important layer to our safety measures. We chose the Air Doctor Pro, which removes more than 99.99% of tested viruses and regularly replaces all the air in a standard room. It's the Human Race time again! Our residents walked and rolling to raise needed money for essential services. If you can contribute we would all sure appreciate it. Support our ABLE athletes!!! This is last year's photo and more of our awesome competitors will join in this year. Thanks for all you do for ABLE!
